Canelo Alvarez Finally Agrees To Fight Terence Crawford On One Condition

At 36-years-old Terence Crawford has made it clear that he’s only interested in legacy-defining fights – and they don’t come much bigger than a clash against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

Crawford cemented his place in the history books when he became the first male fighter in the four belt era to be undisputed in two weight divisions. He’s coming off a career best performance, dominating fellow welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr from the first bell before stopping him in the ninth round.

Since that fight, ‘Bud’ has targeted Canelo, another undisputed champion who happens to fight three weight classes above his last bout. The Mexican is arguably still the biggest draw in the sport but has previously been dismissive about facing the naturally smaller man, claiming he would get no credit for a victory.

However the 33-year-old seems to be coming round to the idea and now seems willing to make it happen – but only if the money is right.

Speaking at a No Golf, No Life presentation, the four-weight world champion said:

“Crawford is a great fighter, obviously, three divisions below. As I’ve said before, I’ve fought bigger guys in my category, smaller guys, older guys, younger guys. At the end of the day, I was born to fight and I’ll fight anyone, obviously on terms that suit me best.

At this point in my career I’ll always make the best fights but they have to benefit me.

It depends on the money, but why not?”

Canelo may just get what he wants. Turki Alalshikh controls boxing in Saudi Arabia and is offering some of the biggest purses in the sport to make fights a reality. At the top of his wish list happens to be Canelo vs Crawford.
