Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford appear to be torn on who they believe to be the greatest fighter of all time.
The modern greats are just two months away from doing battle in their highly anticipated ‘mega-fight’, which takes place on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The bout was made official back in May, shortly after Canelo defeated Cuba’s former IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull to capture the undisputed crown at 168lbs for the second time in his career.
In an interview with GQ, Mexican icon Canelo didn’t hesitate to name the legendary Muhammad Ali as the greatest fighter of all time in his opinion.
“The best in the world – of all time.”
‘Bud’ Crawford does not seem to be in agreement with his future rival however, as he revealed in an interview with SHOWTIME that he ranks Sugar Ray Robinson as the greatest to have ever laced up the gloves.
“The GOAT right now, well, it’s Floyd [Mayweather] but all time it’s gotta be Sugar Ray Robinson.”
Canelo and Crawford will be looking to write their names into the boxing history books when they do battle in September, although many fans and pundits already regard both fighters as two of the best very best to have ever graced the squared circle.
The stakes appear to be a lot higher for ‘Bud’ however, as victory for the 37-year-old from Omaha would see him become the first male fighter in the history of the sport to win an undisputed championship in three weight classes.
