Canelo Alvarez and Gervonta Davis would both jump at the chance of a showdown with a retired five-weight world champion.

The pound-for-pound stars have both had exceptional professional careers to date, with a combined 92 victories. Canelo – who has lost twice in 66 fights – has cemented an exceptional legacy and continues to put on the biggest events in the sport. ‘Tank’ is years behind the Mexican, though has the potential to be a future Hall of Famer himself.

Though both will continue to pick and choose who they face from the current crop of fighters, both men have the same idea in mind for a dream fight.

Whilst speaking on A Safe Place podcast, Davis was asked to name what his would be, choosing none other than Floyd Mayweather Jr as the fighter he would put himself against over anyone else in the main event.

“Me vs. Floyd [Mayweather].”

Mayweather guided ‘Tank’s career for years before a bitter promotional fall out.

In a separate feature with DAZN Boxing, Canelo admitted he is still interested in a rematch against Mayweather Jr, after he suffered the first defeat of his career to the former pound-for-pound star back in September 2013.

“Yes, of course [I would like to fight Mayweather again]. I would love the opportunity to get revenge. Obviously we know it’s not going to happen but yes, I would love to get rid of that little thorn.”

Mayweather drew the curtain on his outstanding professional career shortly after he defeated MMA icon Conor McGregor in 2017. The 47-year-old from Grand Rapids, Michigan beat every single opponent he faced during his tenure, retiring with a record of 50-0.

Since exiting the professional ranks, ‘Money’ has had a handful of exhibition contests where he has faced the likes of Logan Paul, Tenshin Nasukawa and Aaron Chalmers. The 47-year-old is unlikely to now return for anything more than that, having already cemented his legacy.

As for ‘Tank’ and Canelo, the former is set to rematch Lamont Roach Jr after a controversial draw and the latter will face William Scull in an undisputed super-middleweight contest in May.
