The proposed fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford may have just moved a step closer.

The two pound-for-pound greats have been linked with a bout with one another ever since Crawford stepped up to 154lbs last summer.

He successfully defeated Israil Madrimov to win the WBA super-welterweight title, becoming a four-weight world champion in the process, but it didn’t take ‘Bud’ long to make his next intentions perfectly clear.

He revealed he was willing to step up a further two more weight classes to face Canelo at 168lbs, looking to become the first fighter to defeat Alvarez in the super-middleweight division.

The Mexican superstar was initially reluctant to discuss the potential of the fight, and instead was fully focused on his September showdown with Edgar Berlanga.

Canelo won that fight by unanimous decision to retain his WBC, WBA and WBO titles, and now that the dust has settled and both men are in search of opponents, it seems that the fight could be moving closer.

One man who would be seemingly be heavily involved in a Canelo vs. Crawford fight if it does indeed happen is Saudi chief Turki Alalshikh, who has been involved in the majority of the major boxing events to take place over the past year.

Alalshikh met with Canelo in London on Saturday, and Alvarez indicated that a clash against Crawford is exactly what was talked about.

“Always a chance.”

“Always there is a chance there [to see the Crawford fight]. We’ll see. We’re here to make the best deals.”

With Canelo and Crawford both hoping to fight in the Spring, it is likely that they would want a fight to be agreed soon if it does take place, and one man who has sparred both fighters have given a bold prediction on how it will unfold.
