Canelo Alvarez is currently preparing for a big 2025.

The Mexican superstar first returns in May when he takes on IBF champion William Scull, looking to add that belt to his WBC, WBA and WBO collection and once again become undisputed at 168lbs for the second time.

Provided he wins that fight, he will then turn his attention to a huge showdown in September, as he prepares to face fellow pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford, with ‘Bud’ moving up two divisions from super-welterweight for the bout.

While Canelo is fully focused on those two match-ups, he is still craving a fight with a retired boxing legend, who he already took on earlier in his career.

Back in September 2013, Alvarez fought multi-weight world champion Floyd Mayweather, with the American coming out on top on points to hand his rival his first professional defeat.

While it may be over a decade since that meeting, Canelo has told DAZN Boxing how he is still keen to avenge that defeat, but admits he can’t see a rematch ever happening.

“Yes, of course [I would like to fight Mayweather again]. I would love the opportunity to get revenge. Obviously we know it’s not going to happen but yes, I would love to get rid of that little thorn.”

Mayweather retired in 2017 with a perfect record of 50-0, but has taken part in a number of exhibition bouts since hanging up the gloves professionally.

Having experienced first hand what it is like to share the ring with Canelo, Mayweather has given his take on who he rates higher out of the Mexican and his upcoming opponent Crawford.
