Canelo Alvarez is currently searching for his next opponent.
The Mexican superstar was last in action in September when he retained his WBC, WBA and WBO super-middleweight titles with a unanimous decision victory over Edgar Berlanga.
Canelo is expected to return to action for his usual Cinco de Mayo date in May, with it unknown at the moment who may be stood opposite him in the ring.
Fighters like Terence Crawford and Chris Eubank Jr have been mentioned over the past few months, but one name that a lot of boxing fans still want to see Alvarez take on is undefeated David Benavidez.
Benavidez is a two-time super-middleweight champion that is now campaigning at light heavyweight, having won his 175lb debut with a unanimous decision victory over Oleksandr Gvozdyk to win the WBC interim belt in June.
He returns in February to take on WBA Regular light-heavyweight champion David Morrell, but a clash between Canelo and Benavidez is the one that would get mouths watering.
It sadly seems it won’t be happening any time soon though, and Canelo told Fight Hub TV that he sees no threat from his unbeaten rival.
“He’s a good fighter, I’m a great fighter.
“He’s not the same. Look, it’s his weight class. 175 is his weight class, and he do nothing at 175, really.”
Instead, the clash between Canelo and Crawford seems to be the current frontrunner for what could take place next year, and Benavidez has made his prediction for how he thinks that fight may go.
