Canelo Has Now Completely Ruled Out Facing One Man Next: “His Last Performance Disqualifies Him”

Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez is fresh off the back of another impressive and straightforward win.

This past weekend, the unified super middleweight star beat previously unbeaten young challenger Edgar Berlanga over 12 rounds after knocking him down in the third.

As such discussions have already turned to who he might fight next.

He was asked by PPV.com pre-fight if it was possible he could still fight David Morrell, David Benavidez and Terence Crawford before he retired.

“Everything is possible, everything is possible, You know I always fight for legacy, I always fight all the best out there. If the money is right, everything is possible.”

Interviewer Jim Lampley suggested that because Crawford ‘was less than spectacular’ against Israel Madrimov the shine might have come off that fight with Canelo, but he didn’t rule it out.

“He showed himself at 154. He knows it’s very different. I always say, you know, Crawford is a good fighter, as a fighter I know you think you can beat anyone when you’re good but that’s why there is weight classes. Everyone wants to fight me ’cause it’s a payday.”

It was suggested that David Morrell didn’t impress all too much on the same card with his points win over Radivoje Kalajdzic so Canelo was asked if that disqualified him from a fight for now. It appears that he has indeed taken the hard-hitting Cuban off the list.

“Yeah I think so.”

The same was said of David Benavidez’s last performance, his first at light-heavyweight against Oleksandr Gvozdyk. Although Canelo wasn’t impressed, that fight seems to still be on the table.

“He was fighting in his weight class, his weight class is 175, and when he fights in his weight class he doesn’t look like he used to, he doesn’t look like ‘The Monster’ they say.”

Both Morrell and Benavidez have decided to stick around at light-heavyweight, but they would certainly consider a drop back down if it means getting a shot at Alvarez.
