Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is gearing up for what is set to be a huge year for the Mexican superstar.

The 34-year-old from Guadalajara is just days away from facing IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull in Riyadh, as he bids to become a two-time undisputed champion at 168lbs and the first fighter in boxing history to achieve this feat.

Should he be victorious against Scull, the Mexican icon will go on to face fellow pound-for-pound superstar Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford in a mega-fight later this year, with a provisional agreement already said to be in place between the fighters.

Despite having his next two fights pencilled in, for what could be one of the most important years of his career, the 34-year-old appears to have long-term plans in place and has insisted that he will fight in one location in particular before he draws the curtain on his career.

Speaking to iFL TV, Canelo made a promise to his UK fans that he will fight on British soil before he eventually retires from boxing and calls time on his glittering career.

“I’m gonna be soon there, I promise. Before I retire I’m gonna fight in London for sure.”

It has been rumoured that Canelo could face British middleweight Chris Eubank Jr, who has just defeated fierce rival Conor Benn in a huge domestic showdown which took place in London on April 26.

Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh has teased that Eubank could be in line to face Canelo within the next 12 to 18 months, although the 35-year-old looks set to face Benn in a rematch before the end of the year.
