Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has set his sights on proving his credentials against one man in particular before he retires.

The 34-year-old from Mexico is just shy of 70-fights into an accomplished professional career which began two decades ago when he was just 15-years-old.

Since making his debut, the Mexican superstar has captured world titles in four weight classes, including the undisputed super-middleweight championship which he won for the second time when he defeated William Scull last month.

Canelo is now gearing up for a monumental showdown with fellow pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford, with the pair set to lock horns on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In an interview with The Ring Magazine, the Mexican icon expressed his desire to rematch former undisputed light-heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, who handed Canelo the second defeat of his career when they fought back in 2022.

“I hope I have the opportunity to have the rematch with Bivol, that’s the only fight at 175 I would really take but we’ll see.

I want to tell myself ‘Hey, you learned something from that fight’, what things you don’t need to do again. I have that thing in myself which says ‘Hey, you need to show that you’re a better fighter than him’.”

Bivol made a successful defence of his WBA light-heavyweight title against Canelo when they clashed several years ago, becoming the second fighter after Floyd Mayweather Jr to defeat the Mexican great.

Bivol is now in preparations for a trilogy showdown with Artur Beterbiev after he defeated his countryman in their highly anticipated rematch in Riyadh on February 22.
