The iconic Times Square in New York City is set to play host to its first ever boxing card on May 2.

Topping the bill is Ryan Garcia who faces Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero for the WBA ‘regular’ world welterweight title, in what will be Garcia’s first ring appearance since his 1-year suspension for testing positive for a banned substance came to an end.

Devin Haney and Jose Ramirez face each other in a non-title welterweight showdown on the undercard, whilst Teofimo Lopez makes the third defence of his WBO super-lightweight title against mandatory challenger Arnold Barboza Jr.

One fighter who has shown an interest in the iconic bill is unified super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, who has given his prediction for the main event which features stablemate ‘King Ry’ Garcia.

Speaking to Seconds Out, Canelo didn’t hesitate to predict the outcome of Garcia’s intriguing showdown with ‘Rolly’ Romero.

“Oh he’s [Garcia] going to win, he’s going to win by knockout.”

Garcia was banned from boxing for one year and issued with a fine of over $1 million after it was revealed he had tested positive for ostarine in tests that were taken prior to his bout with Devin Haney, which took place at the Barclays Center in New York last April.

The 26-year-old from California floored Haney several times before being declared the winner via majority decision, although the result was later overturned and ruled as a no-contest. Garcia and Haney are expected to face each other in a rematch before the end of 2025, as long as they come through their respective bouts on May 2 without any hitches.
