Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is 20-years into an incredible professional career.

The 34-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico began his journey back in 2005 when he was just 15-years-old. Since then, he has gone on to capture world titles across four weight classes, including the undisputed super middleweight championship.

Canelo has faced a number of the biggest names in the sport over the years, including the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Miguel Cotto and newly-crowned undisputed light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.

In more recent years, the 34-year-old Mexican icon has been a dominant force at 168lbs and has proven this with impressive wins over Golovkin, Callum Smith and Caleb Plant, defeating the latter in that historic victory to become the undisputed king in November 2021.

In an interview with Donald McRae, Canelo spoke of his showdown with Billy Joe Saunders which took place at the AT&T Stadium 4-years ago, as he admits throwing ‘one of the best’ punches ever against the Brit, who was forced to withdraw from the contest in the eighth round after suffering a broken orbital bone.

“It was amazing. The people, the fight, everything. And that uppercut is one of the best punches I’ve ever thrown. I knew the fight was over as soon as it landed because his eye was really bad.”

Canelo has been candid with his dislike for Saunders, saying in a separate interview that he is the opponent he has diskliked the most.

“Billy Joe Saunders – that f***er p***ed me off, that’s why he got what he deserved. Some fighters talk to sell a fight, but I think he’s a bad person and I really enjoyed beating that guy.”

Canelo is now gearing up to face Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford in a mega-fight later this year, but must first come through his May showdown with IBF super middleweight champion William Scull, as he bids to become the undisputed world champion at 168lbs for the second time in his exceptional career.
