Canelo Alvarez Sums Up The Difference Between Himself And David Benavidez In Just 4 Words

Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez are two of the best fighters on the planet.

Canelo is the reigning unified super-middleweight champion, holding the WBC, WBA and WBO titles. He was undisputed up until he was stripped of his IBF belt earlier this year for choosing not to face his mandatory challenger in favour of a more lucrative defence.

Alvarez has also held world honours at super-welterweight, middleweight and light heavyweight, defeating the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev and Miguel Cotto during his illustrious career.

One other fighter he has been continuously linked with is Benavidez, the undefeated former two-time WBC super-middleweight champion.

Despite the best efforts of Benavidez, the bout has never been able to materialise, with Canelo publicly demanding a huge purse of between $150 million to $200 million in order to make it happen.

It has led some fans to accuse Alvarez of ducking his rival, but Canelo seemingly hit back at those claims whilst speaking to Fight Hub TV, needing just four words to sum up what he thinks the difference is between himself and Benavidez.

“He’s good, I’m great.”

Canelo has previously claimed that the match-up does nothing for his legacy.

Benavidez has seemingly moved on from his attempts to fight Canelo, stepping up to 175lbs and defeating Oleksandr Gvozdyk to win the WBC interim light heavyweight title back in June.

He’s back in action in February, going up against WBA regular light heavyweight champion David Morrell, where a win could secure him a clash against the winner of the undisputed rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.

As for Canelo, he’s expected to return to the ring in May with many fans hoping Terence Crawford will be in the opposite corner.
