Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has been asked about the infamous press conference between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn.
When these two first came together to announce their fight this weekend earlier in the year, Eubank Jr smashed an egg on Benn’s face. It was a stunt designed to make fun of a potential explanation given by the WBC as to why Benn tested positive for a banned substance in the lead-up to their first proposed fight back in October 2022, namely that he had eaten too many eggs.
It led to a heated exchange and upped the animosity between the two fighters who have already long had a dislike for one another.
They finally come to blows at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when they will compete at 160 lbs, meaning Benn has to come up two weights from his usual welterweight division, and Eubank will have the natural size advantage. He has also fought at a higher level in his career, including in the last couple of years, in which he has one KO loss and one KO win against former world champion Liam Smith, while Benn has had just two low-key points wins out in the United States against untested opponents.
Speaking to DAZN, Canelo was asked how he rated the face-off between Benn and Eubank.
“One.”
He was then asked what would happen if someone smashed an egg in his face at a weight in.
“I probably kill him.”
Canelo has a rich history of beating British fighters, having previously bested the likes of Billy Joe Saunders, Callum Smith, John Ryder and Amir Khan and has been linked with a potential match-up against Eubank in the future.
Next time out he takes on William Scull in May as he attempts to become a two-time undisputed super middleweight champion and is then expected to face pound-for-pound great Terence Crawford in September.
