Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney are set to square off for a second time following one of the most controversial bouts of 2024. Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has weighed in with a concrete prediction.
Garcia worried fans during fight week in April with his erratic behaviour, appearing to drink beer on the scales and coming in three pounds overweight, thus ineligible to win Haney’s WBC Super-lightweight World Title.
The pair struck a deal to have the fight go ahead regardless and, against the odds, Garcia dropped the champion three times on a way to a majority decision win. The controversy continued when it was revealed he had twice tested positive for a banned substance. The result was overturned to a no contest and Garcia banned for one year.
With that suspension set to end this April, the pair have apparently signed the rematch via boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh. It is reportedly taking place this October in Saudi Arabia pending both men winning an interim fight in May.
Speaking to the media, ‘King Ryan’ revealed that he has had a conversation with former training partner and current unified super-middleweight world champion Canelo, who said the rematch will be ‘easy work.’
“He told me that it’s easy work, that I’m gonna beat Devin again. That’s what he said.”
