Canelo Alvarez is the latest big name to reveal how he scored the Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach fight.

Davis was defending his WBA lightweight title against Roach at the Barclays Center in New York, in a clash that many fans expected to be a comfortable win for ‘Tank.’

Roach made sure it didn’t unfold that way, having lots of success throughout the fight, which led to a controversial moment taking place in the ninth round.

Davis voluntarily took a knee, and despite the referee initially counting, he chose to stop and didn’t score it as a knockdown, something that proved crucial at the end of the fight.

After 12 rounds, the scorecards read 115-113 Davis and 114-114 twice, meaning a 10-8 round in the ninth for Roach would have been enough to earn him the victory and become the new WBA lightweight champion.

Plenty of boxing’s biggest stars have weighed in on the controversy, and pound-for-pound star Canelo has now had his say.

Speaking on Hot 97, Canelo revealed he scored the contest the draw and explained what should have happened to ‘Tank’ for taking a knee and going to his corner.

“Yeah my opinion it was a draw.

He takes a knee and plus the corner go up and put a towel in the face. That’s a disqualification for sure. I’m talking about the rules but that’s not my business.”

Davis and Roach are set to meet in a rematch this summer, while Canelo also has a busy schedule of his own, taking on William Scull in May before then turning his attention to Terence Crawford in September.
