Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is just weeks away from his showdown with the controversial Jake Paul.

The 39-year-old from Culiacan, Mexico will lock horns with the former YouTube sensation in a cruiserweight contest at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Saturday June 28.

The highlight of Chavez’s professional career came when he reigned as the WBC world middleweight champion between 2011 and 2012, making several successful defences of the coveted title before he was eventually dethroned by Sergio Martinez.

Chavez has lost on a further five occasions since his world title reign came to an end 13 years ago, but the Mexican is unbeaten in his last two outings and could become just the second man to defeat Paul next month.

In a media scrum, reigning undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, who defeated Chavez back in 2017, has had his say on whether his former rival can prevail in his showdown with ‘The Problem Child.’

“[I’m] rooting for Chavez, I think it’s a chance for him to redeem himself and it’s a great opportunity, I fully trust that he’ll secure that victory, I wish him all the best.”

Victory for the Mexican could potentially derail Paul’s dreams of becoming a legitimate world champion in the future, although his lack of activity in the last few years could be costly for him.

Paul returned to the ring last November, defeating heavyweight icon Mike Tyson via unanimous decision at the conclusion of their controversial eight round bout at the AT&T Stadium in Texas, subsequently sending the 58-year-old into permanent retirement from boxing.
