Jake Paul welcomes Mike Tyson back to boxing for a controversial contest this weekend in Texas.

The eight two-minute round affair sees 58-year-old Tyson step through the ropes against Paul, 27, and has been criticised by many in the sport for the potential dangers it poses.

Speaking to TMZ, four-weight world champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez – whose motto is no boxing, no life – said he wasn’t interested in the event at all.

“Not at all. No. It isn’t [good for boxing]. I think Netflix is good for boxing, but for that fight especially I think Netflix is doing something wrong there. I think Netflix being involved, yes it’s good, but not in that kind of fight. I think it’s more [of a] show than a fight.”

Despite joining the many who aren’t fans of the contest, Canelo’s name has been dragged into the promotion by Paul himself.

He recently revealed on the Timbo Sugar Show that he planned to call the Mexican out if he beats ‘Iron’ Mike, saying he will be looking for a payday – despite being one the most lucrative stars in the sport – and it will be for a cruiserweight title – despite Canelo never fighting higher than light-heavy.

“This moment will prove I’m the face of boxing, the largest attraction, and me vs. Canelo at 200 pounds for the cruiserweight championship of the world is the biggest fight, arguably even bigger than me vs. Tyson, and it makes so much sense.

“Canelo is on his way out. He’s going to want a payday and I want to show the world all the [stuff] I’ve been talking about beating Canelo is actually true and I’ll have the biggest upset in the history of boxing. We’ll fight to really see who is the face [of boxing] because after this event, I’m going to be claiming it.”

It’s not the first time Paul has chased the fight and it certainly won’t be the last. When asked about the proposition last time it came about, Canelo made it clear that the match-up was not on his radar, saying, “I’m not interested.”

Paul is unlikely to be deterred by the response.
