Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez has weighed-in with his opinion on the upcoming fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.
The former heavyweight champion takes on the YouTuber-turned-boxer next month in a clash that has caused plenty of controversy since it was announced.
The contest was originally scheduled to take place in July but an ulcer flare up for the 58-year-old caused him to postpone the bout.
“I want to thank my fans around the world for their support and understanding during this time. Unfortunately, due to my ulcer flareup, I have been advised by my doctor to lighten my training for a few weeks to rest and recover.
My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s and I will be back to my full training schedule soon. Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good. I appreciate everyone’s patience and can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year.”
The medical incident only heightened concerns around the Tyson facing a man over 30 years his junior.
In an interview with Lewis Howes, Canelo, who currently rules the supper-middleweight division, understands the financial rewards around the fight but says Tyson is taking a ‘risk’ entering the ring again at his age.
“It’s hard to say [who will win], but it’s risky for Mike Tyson, because he’s 57/58 years old and boxing is no joke.
But I get why they are doing it, it’s a business.”
Tyson vs Paul takes place on November 15 at the AT&T stadium in Texas and will be broadcast live on Netflix.
