Canelo Alvarez is set to return to the ring in May.
The Mexican superstar is known for competing on his trademark ‘Cinco de Mayo’ date each year, with the same expected once again in 2025.
He was last in action in September when he retained his WBC, WBA and WBO super-middleweight titles with a unanimous decision victory over Edgar Berlanga, but currently it’s unclear who his next opponent will be.
One option is fellow pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford, who has been linked to a fight with Canelo over the past year despite being several weight classes below his rival.
Another man that fans would love to see Alvarez take on is David Benavidez, but that looks unlikely after ‘The Mexican Monster’ moved up to 175lbs and revealed that he has no plans to return to super-middleweight.
Canelo has now revealed who he would love to face, but admits it is doubtful to ever happen, as he told DAZN that a rematch with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather would be at the top of his list.
“Yes, of course [I would like to fight Mayweather again]. I would love the opportunity to get revenge. Obviously we know it’s not going to happen but yes, I would love to get rid of that little thorn.”
Canelo took on Mayweather back in September 2013 in Las Vegas, with Mayweather earning a comfortable points victory to hand Alvarez his first career defeat.
Having retired in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record, Mayweather recently reflected on the fight with Canelo and revealed whether or not it was tougher than his famous fight with Manny Pacquiao.
