Ahead of their mega-fight, Canelo Alvarez has slammed the career resume of Terence Crawford.
The 34-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico is set to defend his unified WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight titles against the American this September in Las Vegas, with an official announcement to be made in due course.
‘Bud’ has already captured world titles in four weight divisions, as well as holding the undisputed championship at both super lightweight and welterweight.
Despite Crawford achieving so much during his 41-fight tenure, Mexican icon Canelo has spoken out and revealed he has not been impressed by his rival’s accomplishments.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, Canelo acknowledged Crawford’s talent and ability, but claimed he has just won just one big fight during his career.
“Look, I respect Terence Crawford. He’s very talented, but he’s just won one big fight.
If you see his record, he just beat one good fighter. Other than that, he hasn’t beat other good fighters like Spence.”
The 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska moved up to 154lbs last August to dethrone WBA champion Israil Madrimov, albeit in an underwhelming performance that has left many fans and pundits questioning whether ‘Bud’ can go a step further and do the business at super middleweight.
Canelo became undisputed champion at 168lbs in 2021 when he defeated Caleb Plant. Since then, he has made successful defences of his crown with victories against the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Jermell Charlo and Jaime Munguia.
The Mexican superstar was stripped of his IBF title last summer, after opting to face Edgar Berlanga rather than mandatory challenger William Scull.
