Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez is being hunted down by Terence Crawford, though he will make the final decision on whether or not they ever meet inside the ropes.

The Mexican – who has previously been dismissive of the contest – is currently unified at super-middleweight and is yet to be beaten in that division, only falling short twice in a 66-fight campaign against Floyd Mayweather when he was lighter and then Dmitry Bivol at light-heavyweight.

Crawford would be moving up two divisions from his last bout at super-welterweight to make the fight happen, but he is convinced his elite skillset will make up for any disadvantage in bulk.

He made his debut at 154lbs against previously undefeated Israil Madrimov, who succeeded in taking Crawford the distance for the first time in 10 fights but lost a unanimous decision. Madrimov was unorthodox and tricky in the ring but the American solved the puzzle well to win.

In an interview with Sway, Canelo said that if ‘Bud’s team met his price he was in for the fight, particularly since he now believes the American would make for an entertaining clash where he wasn’t convinced before.

“I’m in. Why not? Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great fighter but for me, in my weight class, it’s an easy fight. Easy money. If the money is right, I’m in, because I don’t like to fight guys like Crawford because he moves a lot and the fight is not that great, I saw in his last fight and he don’t move that much now. So if the money is right I’m in right now … there are weight classes for a reason.”

Neither man has a fight pencilled in but Canelo is expected out again in May 2025 whilst Crawford doesn’t have a set date. Fans who back the match-up remain in hope that it will be next up.
