Canelo Alvarez has finally spoken out after he chose to spar Jaron Ennis ahead of his ‘mega-fight’ with Terence Crawford.

The Mexican great is just several days away from putting his undisputed super-middleweight championship on the line against ‘Bud’ at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo captured the undisputed crown at 168lbs for the second in his career back in May when he defeated Cuba’s William Scull via unanimous decision to add the IBF world title to his unified WBC, WBA and WBO straps.

The 35-year-old then enlisted former unified WBA and IBF welterweight champion ‘Boots’ Ennis to assist him with his preparations to face Crawford, sparring a number of rounds with the unbeaten super-welterweight star during his training camp.

Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday night, Canelo admitted that he is grateful to have sparred ‘Boots’ during his training camp, as he touches on the history that he has with the Ennis family. In summing up, he said the work was ‘really good’ preparation.

“Yeah, more than one time [we sparred] and he helped me really good, and I’m very grateful with him. We have history because 14 years ago his older brother help me for when I fought Shane Mosley and Alfonso Gomez so that’s why we have history with the Ennis family.

“I’m very grateful with him taking the time to go there and give me some work. He’s very similar to Crawford, he switch guards too, he’s fast and he’s a pretty good fighter so I worked really good with him.”

Canelo could add yet another huge name to his outstanding resume should he get the better of ‘Bud’ on Saturday night, as he looks to cement himself as one of, if not the greatest fighter of his generation in the process.
