Canelo Makes Emphatic Prediction For Ryan Garcia vs Devin Haney Rematch

Canelo Alvarez has cast his eye over the Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney rematch.

Garcia and Haney are set to meet later this year following their controversial first meeting at the Barclays Center in New York in April 2024.

Haney was set to defend his WBC super-lightweight title in the bout, but it became a non-title affair after ‘King Ry’ missed weight following an erratic few weeks where he didn’t appear to be taking the fight seriously.

The clash certainly didn’t turn out that way though, with Garcia dropping his rival several times on his way to a points victory, though it was later changed to a no contest after ‘King Ry’ failed a drugs test.

Nearly a year on from the drama, the two men are scheduled to compete on the same card in May, with Garcia taking on Rolly Romero, and Haney facing Jose Ramirez. Provided both men come through those contests, they will meet in a rematch later this year.

Pound-for-pound star Canelo knows Garcia well, with ‘King Ry’ once again working with Alvarez’s trainer Eddy Reynoso.

Garcia has revealed that he spoke to Canelo about the potential rematch with Haney, claiming that Alvarez told him it would be ‘easy work.’

“He told me that it’s easy work, that I’m gonna beat Devin again. That’s what he said.”

It’s set to be a busy 24 hours for the Canelo camp, with Garcia’s bout with Romero taking place on May 2 in New York, before WBC, WBA and WBO super-middleweight champion Alvarez then meets IBF champion William Scull the following day in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
