Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez says he will fight Terence Crawford ‘if the money is right.’
It is a change of tune from the Mexican’s previous stance, saying that he would get no credit for beating a man much smaller. Crawford was not deterred and continued to push for the bout, willing to jump up two weight classes from his last bout at super-welterweight.
With the fight a potential for 2025 providing Crawford’s side can get to the numbers Canelo wants, the sport now debates whether or not Crawford’s elite skillset is good enough to compete against a bonafide super-middleweight who has proven over years to be the very best in that division.
Canelo doesn’t believe the American has a chance, telling Sway’s Universe there are ‘weight classes for a reason.’
“I’m in. Why not? Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great fighter but for me, in my weight class, it’s an easy fight. Easy money.
If the money is right, I’m in, because I don’t like to fight guys like Crawford because he moves a lot and the fight is not that great, I saw in his last fight and he don’t move that much now. So if the money is right I’m in right now … there are weight classes for a reason.”
Crawford has admitted that the size is a worry in the bout, but he fully backs himself to beat Alvarez. Some believe that his latest outing – a super-welterweight points win over Israil Madrimov – did not show positive signs for his pursuit.
