Canelo Alvarez ‘Offered $70m’ To Face ‘Monster’ Champion: “It’s Amazing The Attention It’s Getting”

Ahead of his mega-fight with Terence Crawford, it has been revealed that Canelo Alvarez reportedly turned down a monumental offer to face another man.

The 34-year-old from Mexico is due to defend his unified WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight titles against ‘Bud’ Crawford in September, although an official announcement is yet to be made.

Another man that has been linked with a showdown against Canelo is ‘The Mexican Monster’, David Benavidez, ever since he became the mandatory challenger to his WBC title in 2023.

After a fight did not materialise, the 28-year-old opted for a move up to light heavyweight where he currently holds the WBC ‘interim’ title at 175lbs.

Speaking to ALL THE SMOKE FIGHT, Benavidez opened up about the situation surrounding a potential clash with Canelo, claiming the Mexican superstar was offered around $70 million to face him.

“I knew one day people were gonna ask for that fight and I feel like it’s amazing how much attention this fight is getting, and I think even winning more right now the more he’s putting it off.

They offered him $70 million to fight me that’s before pay-per-view, you guys can call Al Haymon and ask him that, imagine after pay-per-view.”

Benavidez is unbeaten in 29 professional contests, having stopped 24 of the opponents he has faced inside the distance. He makes his return to the ring on February 1 in an intriguing showdown against David Morrell, who has won all 11 of his outings.

It remains to be seen if a fight between Canelo and Benavidez will ever be made, although ‘The Monster’ remains open to facing the Mexican superstar in what could be a huge event for the Mexican-American community.
