Canelo Alvarez has shared his thoughts after he suffered the third defeat of his professional career to Terence Crawford on Saturday night.
The 35-year-old from Guadalajara was dethroned of his undisputed super-middleweight world championship as he was beaten by unanimous decision against ‘Bud’ Crawford at a sold out Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The judges scorecards read 115-113, 115-113 and 116-112 all in favour of the unbeaten American who had put on an impressive display against the Mexican great in what was his first ever appearance at 168lbs.
Whilst this loss seemingly leaves Canelo at a crossroads in his career, the Mexican legend has been more than gracious in defeat, giving a great deal of respect to ‘Bud’ in the moments following their historic clash.
Speaking to Fight Hype, Canelo gave an honest response when the reporter claimed that he believed the 35-year-old had done enough to walk away victorious.
“You know we need to accept it, we need to accept it no matter what, on the scorecards we lost.”
There have been calls from fans and experts alike that Canelo should go on to retire from the sport after suffering the third defeat of his career, having previously fallen short to Floyd Mayweather in 2013 and Dmitry Bivol in 2022.
The Mexican great is more than likely to make his return to the ring during the early stages of next year however after he signed a multi-fight deal with Riyadh Season at the beginning of the year.
