There has been a shock twist ahead of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight.
Canelo and Crawford have been linked to a fight with one another for over a year, and it requires ‘Bud’ to make an ambitious jump up in weight to 168lbs for the battle.
He has only competed above welterweight once in his career, with that bout coming last August when he defeated Israil Madrimov to win the WBA super-welterweight title.
As for Canelo, he once again became undisputed super-middleweight champion earlier this month when he defeated IBF champion William Scull by unanimous decision to add that belt to his WBC, WBA and WBO collection.
After that fight, Canelo and Crawford had a face-off inside the ring, with it announced that the two men would do battle at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Friday 12 September.
There has been a major update though, after Mike Coppinger reported that the date of the fight has changed, and that the location is also now up in the air.
“Turki Alalshikh tells @ringmagazine he has decided the Canelo Alvarez-Terence Crawford Riyadh Season super fight will take place Saturday, Sept. 13 rather than the day before.
“He says the fight could land in New York, L.A. or Las Vegas, whichever of five potential sites presents the best deal. And he’s decided the Ring Magazine super middleweight championship fight will be a Riyadh Season PPV event.”
With the fight less than four months away, it is expected that an official announcement on the new location will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
