Canelo Alvarez is just months away from his monumental showdown with Terence Crawford.

The 34-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico will lock horns with his fellow pound-for-pound star on Saturday September 13 at an undisclosed venue in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo reclaimed the undisputed super-middleweight championship with a points victory over former IBF champion William Scull at the beginning of last month, becoming the first fighter in boxing history to accomplish this exceptional feat.

The Mexican icon initially captured the undisputed championship at 168lbs when he defeated Caleb Plant in 2021 before going on to make a handful of successful defences against the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Jaime Munguia and Jermell Charlo amongst others.

As he prepares for one of the biggest nights of his professional career, Canelo is already targeting a showdown with another highly rated fighter after he shares the ring with Crawford later this year.

In an interview with The Ring Magazine, Canelo expressed an interest in facing former undisputed light-heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, who handed the Mexican superstar the second defeat of his career several years ago.

“I hope I have the opportunity to have the rematch with Bivol, that’s the only fight at 175 I would really take.

I want to tell myself ‘Hey, you learned something from that fight’, what things you don’t need to do again. I have that thing in myself which says ‘Hey, you need to show that you’re a better fighter than him’.”

Bivol defeated Canelo via unanimous decision to keep a hold of his WBA light-heavyweight title when the pair clashed at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas back in May of 2022.

The Russian star would go on to capture the undisputed light-heavyweight crown earlier this year when he defeated rival Artur Beterbiev in their rematch. A trilogy showdown between the Russian stars is set to take place later this year.
