His next outing will be against former two-weight undisputed champion Terence Crawford in Las Vegas this September.
It has been over a decade since Canelo suffered the first defeat of his professional career to Floyd Mayweather, but the 34-year-old has recently expressed an interest in facing the retired pound-for-pound star for the second time.
In an interview with DAZN Boxing, Canelo admitted he would ‘love’ the opportunity to avenge his defeat to ‘Money’, but accepts the fact that it is unlikely to happen in the near future.
“Yes, of course [I would like to fight Mayweather again]. I would love the opportunity to get revenge. Obviously we know it’s not going to happen but yes, I would love to get rid of that little thorn.”
Mayweather announced his retirement from the sport eight years ago, shortly after he defeated MMA fighter Conor McGregor in their monumental crossover bout in Las Vegas.
The 48-year-old from Michigan has returned to the ring on a number of occasions in exhibition matches however, facing the likes of Tenshin Nasukawa, Aaron Chalmers and Logan Paul.
