Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez is back in the ring in May against a man who has been sparring Conor Benn.

Canelo looks to become two-time undisputed world champion in the super-middleweight ranks when he takes on new IBF titleholder William Scull.

Scull has won all 23 of his fights so far including getting a unanimous decision over Vladimir Shishkin back in October to pick up the vacant belt. He has been training in Mallorca, which is where Benn has been based for his camp ahead of his fight with Chris Eubank Jr on April 26 and so the two have shared rounds of sparring.

Speaking to Pro Boxing Fans, Scull said it has been good work so far, praising the Brit for his ‘explosiveness’ and speed.

“Yeah I was very impressed, he’s a very explosive and fast fighter and I think he’s very ready and it’s going to be a good fight for him.”

He was then asked how Benn would deal with going up two weights to meet Eubank, who is the naturally bigger man.

“Going higher in weight is not impossible, it’s difficult to do it in a big way, get used to this weight and then go and fight fighters that are more than settled at this weight. In life you need to try new things, if you don’t try you will never find out.”

The fight takes place up at 160lbs, however Eubank will be limited by a rehydration clause which states he cannot put on more than 10lbs by the morning of the fight.
