Carl Frampton next fight off following broken hand

The return of Carl Frampton, set for Philadelphia this Saturday, has been called off in bizarre circumstances

The return of Carl Frampton, his first fight since losing an IBF featherweight title challenge to Josh Warrington and thought to be a precursor to a big contest later this year, has been called off after the Belfast man broke his hand in strange circumstances.

The former super-bantam and featherweight king was set to meet Mexico’s Emmanuel Dominguez, a stoppage loser to Jordan Gill, in Philadelphia in what was thought a safe comeback fight before a potential world title challenge at either 126 or 130lbs. Little did anyone anticipate Frampton would accidentally break his hand in two places when an ornament fell on it yesterday (Sunday).

Frampton-Rodriguez was the main event of a Top Rank card on ESPN and, in the UK, BT Sport.

The bill goes on with Jason Sosa vs Haskell Rhodes as the replacement headliner with double Olympic gold medallist Robeisy Ramirez of Cuba also making his pro debut on the card. It is unknown at this stage if BT still plan to carry the show.
