Carl Froch Called Out By Former World Champion For Comeback Fight: “He Talks Too Much”

Carl Froch has long been retired, but that hasn’t stopped a former world champion calling him out for a fight.

Froch is one of Britain’s most standout boxers of the last 20 years. The former super-middleweight champion held several titles across his career and defeated the likes of Jean Pascal, Lucien Bute and Jermain Taylor.

His most famous nights came in the last two fights of his career, firstly when he got a controversial stoppage win over George Groves, then when he sensationally knocked out the young challenger in the rematch in front of a vast crowd at Wembley Stadium back in 2014.

Since then, he has remained a vocal pundit and YouTuber who has got into heated exchanges with the likes of Darren Till, Anthony Joshua, Jake Paul and Tyson Fury’s father, John.

It seems he has now rubbed former super-middleweight king James DeGale up the wrong way. DeGale became a world champion in 2015, a year after Froch’s retirement, and retired in 2019 after losing to Chris Eubank Jr.

He is now set to compete in bare-knuckle boxing in Manchester this weekend when he takes on Matt Floyd, and ahead of his debut in BKFC and speaking to DAZN, DeGale has admitted he would still be keen to fight ‘The Cobra.’

“I’d personally love that, but Carl thinks he’s Floyd Mayweather. He talks so much. He’s so disrespectful and he’s not humble one bit.

“He’s so arrogant. He’s nearly 50. He looks good and he’s in good shape, but he’s 50. Darren Till probably beats him. He’s all talk. He won’t fight me. He’s all talk. He just wants to be in the limelight.”

For all the talk, Froch has never shown a real desire to get back in the ring, so this will likely remain one of many fantasy fights he has been linked with.
