Carl Froch and Anthony Joshua have a history of exchanging less-than-friendly messages with one another.
Froch has seemed to lay into Joshua a number of times in recent years. For one thing, he claimed that whoever won the world heavyweight title fight between Joshua and Daniel Dubois this past weekend would be a paper champion because Oleksandr Usyk is the true IBF title holder despite having had to vacate in order to fulfil his rematch obligation with Tyson Fury later in the year.
Froch also didn’t take too kindly when AJ left Rob McCracken – the man who guided him to his own super-middleweight titles – and had some criticisms of his training techniques.
Now, speaking on his own YouTube channel in the wake of Joshua’s emphatic fifth-round knockout defeat to Dubois, Froch felt he had to reach out to Joshua again, but this time to check in with him despite their previous animosity – and revealed that AJ was ‘absolutely fine’.
“The knockout that Anthony Joshua received was so bad I felt compelled to reach out to him and yesterday I had a quick chat to him and he’s assured me he’s absolutely fine, 10/10 health he said, this sport can be unforgiving. They are the words that stood out to me, so I’m happy about that.”
He then shared his views on the talk of a rematch and isn’t a fan of the idea.
“An immediate rematch for me is the end of Anthony Joshua’s career and I don’t think that should be happening. He’s in a really tight spot, a really sticky situation.”
