Carl Froch has taken a less-than-traditional approach to his own version of the New Year’s Honours list.
Froch is never afraid to speak his mind on all matters of boxing, from making predictions to calling for fighters to retire. It has often led to him having back and forths with everyone from former world champion Anthony Joshua to John Fury, father of ‘The Gypsy King’, Tyson Fury. However, for this particular award he looked stateside.
Speaking on his own channel, Froch on Fighting, the former super middleweight champion of the world gave a less than desirable title to American YouTuber tuned boxer Jake Paul.
“The clown of the year is Fake Paul. Always going to have to be the clown of the year.”
He then claimed he would enter the ring with Paul without any money being offered.
“He’s been talking b*****ks about they will fight Froch if he’s giving 100% of his purse to charity and any of his associated earnings. They really want to say Froch won’t fight for free.
I’ve said I will fight for free, I will fight for free. I just want to knock his teeth down the back of his throat and finish his boxing career but they won’t fight me anyway. They’re stupid, but they’re not stupid enough to fight ‘The Cobra’. So Clown of the Year goes to Jake Paul.’
The younger man won clearly on points – adding the win to a resume that includes victories over MMA stars Nate Diaz and Anderson Silva but a loss to Tommy Fury – and forges ahead with his controversial career, adamant that he will win a legitimate world title in the future.
