Carl Froch has been speaking with former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
This is not time first the British fighters have conversed in recent times. Back in July, they exchanged some heated messages on WhatsApp which were at the time described as a “barrage of abuse” after Froch criticised Joshua for leaving Rob McCracken, who once trained both men, and also called him a ‘plastic gangster.’
Since then, Joshua failed in his attempt to become a three-time world heavyweight champion after he fought Daniel Dubois for the IBF title being stopped inside five rounds.
Speaking on his own YouTube channel, Froch revealed that he reached out to ‘AJ’ to check in with him after the loss.
“After the fight, I’m the guy that’s gone to him, messaged him, had a conversation with him, asked him if he’s ok. I’m more concerned about his health than how much money he’s earning. I’m not the promoter taking the dough off the fighter, I’m the guy that’s worried.”
He then explained he got in touch with the British star because he knows what it’s like after a loss and revealed that AJ called him ‘a mentor’.
“I understand boxing, I’ve been punched in the face, I know what it’s like to wake up in the morning after a loss when you’re confused. I know how that feels, I reached out to Anthony Joshua, we had a convo, he called me a mentor which was nice. We’ve got a profound respect for each other, we’re both warriors.”
Joshua is hoping to go into an immediate rematch with Dubois to avenge his latest loss and regain the IBF world title he first won off Charles Martin back in 2016.
