It has been more than a decade since Carl Froch last fought.
‘The Cobra’ bowed out in the most perfect way possible when he knocked George Groves out in front of a then-modern record crowd of 80, 000 people at Wembley Stadium following his controversial stoppage win in their first fight six months earlier.
It was the ideal way for any boxer to leave the sport behind – as a world champion, with the best punch of his career. In the years before, Froch had established himself as one the best super-middleweights of his era with wins over the likes of Mikkel Kellser, Jean Pascal, Lucien Bute and many more, both at home on the UK and abroad in the USA.
Since then he has remained a vocal pundit and YouTuber who has often got into heated verbal exchanges with a range of characters from Anthony Joshua to Jake Paul and Big John Fury.
Another man in his crosshairs has been Darren Till, the former UFC fighter turned boxer.
Till has made no secret that he wants to face Froch in the ring, and the Hall of Fame world champion was even ringside for Till’s last fight.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Froch has revealed he is to reunite with his old coach Rob McCracken as he considers the bout.
“I’m gonna go see Rob McCracken next week and I’m gonna start working the heavy bag and the pads. I feel great, 48 years old. I don’t feel 48, I don’t drink or smoke. I live clean, as you know. I’ll have the odd drink, pint of Guinness, shot of tequila, whatever. But I don’t get p****d ever, I eat clean. I feel great. So, why not? Why not smash someone’s head in that’s a gob s***e?”
Although nothing is confirmed, he said discussions have taken place.
“I’m not making any decisions. Listen Darren Till, he bares no relevance to me. If the fight’s there, Kalle Sauerland fancies the job because he’s promoting Misfits. I’ve spoke to Mams Taylor and also Eddie Hearn’s been in touch as well. I’ve had a little back and forth with Eddie Hearn on the old text message. So who knows? Maybe I’ll know when I’ve been in the gym and thrown a few punches.”
Last time out, Till knocked out Luke Rockhold in round three before calling out Froch, and it seems he may just get what he wants.
