Carl Froch Delivers Harsh Verdict On Conor Benn vs Chris Eubank Jr: “What’s He Ever Done?”

Carl Froch hasn’t held back with his views about a potential fight between British rivals Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr.

This fight has long been on the cards and was close to happening in October 2022 until it was revealed that Benn had failed a doping test ahead of the scheduled bout.

As such, the card was pulled and Benn spent the next two years protesting his innocence all while not being allowed to fight in the UK. He had two contests out in the US and recently revealed he is cleared to fight again.

Eubank fought Liam Smith twice in the interim, losing the first by KO for the first time in his career, but winning the rematch with a stoppage of his own. He also fought Kamil Szeremeta back in October and won, setting up more talk of a fight with Benn.

Speaking on Fightlens, Froch was damning about the appeal of the contest.

“For me it’s not a fight I want to see. Chris Eubank Jr is 35 years old, well past his best, what’s he ever done? Whenever he steps up he lost to George Groves, lost to Billy Joe Saunders, whenever he steps up he gets found out. He got f***ing ironed out by Liam Smith, battered. I know he won the rematch but Smith was dead on the scales.”

He then assessed how it might go.

“Benn vs Eubank is a big fight but it’s going to be for nothing. Benn is smaller than him, but if Eubank comes down he could be dead at the weight and Benn might just do him, so who gives a f**k?”

Finally, he laid into Benn’s achievements in recent years.

“Benn’s done nothing since he failed his drug test. His career stagnated. Eubank’s been out the ring for a year, fought a nobody and he didn’t look very good in his last fight, he was getting caught with shots, looking sluggish, loading up, missing.

“It’s two fighters that are literally gonna fight each other for the old bunsen burner. Fair play, but don’t ask an old boxing guy like me, I’ve no interest at all.”

Froch might not be interested, but many in the boxing world would still like to see this fight between generational rivals.
