Carl Froch was in attendance to see Darren Till score a brutal knockout over fellow former UFC fighter Luke Rockhold this weekend, fuelling speculation that he is considering a return to the ring.
Till starred in his third Misfits fight – the promotion that boasts big names from the world of social media and combat sports – winning by third round knockout. He immediately made a beeline for Froch, who was sitting ringside, to call him out after an extended back and forth online.
Speaking on his own channel, Froch on Fighting, ‘The Cobra’ addressed claims that he had made himself scarce before Till got a hold of the microphone.
“I didn’t do a runner, I wasn’t scared. For those haters who are going to say I s**t myself and ran off, I didn’t. I couldn’t be arsed with the bulls**t.”
Assessing the performance, Froch said his potential rival did well ‘at that level.’
“At the level he’s at, he’s done all right. He’s got decent balance, throws a decent backhand from the southpaw stance, but let’s be honest it’d be a mismatch. Even at 48-years-old, retired 11 years, it’s a mismatch. Is there any money in it?”
And finally, on the potential of a return, the British veteran left things wide open.
“We’ve got to sit down. We haven’t got to, but maybe we will sit down and have a chat. Maybe I’ll up it from level 4 to level 5 out of ten in the gym, maybe throw a few punches in the sparring ring, get the face mask on to protect the hooter, and see how I feel. It’s got me thinking … I’ve got a bit of a decision to make – do I want to get back in the boxing ring again?”
