Carl Froch has responded to a call for him to end his retirement and return to the ring.
A former super-middleweight world champion and Hall of Famer, Froch retired in 2014 off the back of a knockout win over George Groves at Wembley Stadium. He hung his gloves up with a record of 33 wins and just two defeats, one of which he avenged.
Known for his granite chin and incredible will to win, Froch holds a positive place in the British boxing history books, and is seen by most as to have retired at the perfect time. He has, however, often teased a comeback for the right price.
That is being put to the test by Darren Till, former UFC fighter turned Misfits pro boxer, who is coming off a points win over Darren Stewart. In the aftermath, Till said he had personal beef with Froch and called him out for a fight.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, ‘The Cobra’ first assessed the skills of Till.
“There’s a guy called Darren Till from Liverpool. Ex-MMA fighter turned boxer, he’s had a couple of Misfits fights, looked terrible, think he had a win at the weekend.
“He’s been calling me out. Chatting s**t basically … He got absolutely f***ing ironed out by [Jorge] Masvidal with a punch that clipped him on the chin. Can you imagine if a professional boxer, my sort of level, hit him with a right hand or a right uppercut. It would be absolutely wipeout, game over.”
Froch then said that he would only accept the fight for the right money – a sum which he doesn’t believe is there.
“Problem is for Darren Till, I’ve been retired for 11 years. I’m not interested. I don’t want to fight anymore. Don’t call my name out to give yourself credence.
“Listen, if the money was there and it was big enough, I’d certainly take a look at it. But, for now, one, you’d get demolished, and two, there’s no real [money] in it. Just pipe down about the Cobra’s name … You need to have a f***ing reality check mate.”
Till is fast becoming Misfits premier star, having now twice headlined cards for the crossover promotion.
