Deontay Wilder is planning on making a return to the ring.

The once fearsome and long-reining WBC champion knocked out had knocked out every man he faced – Bermaine Stiverne at the second time of asking – until he came up against Tyson Fury in an epic three-fight trilogy.

The first ended in a draw but the next two were emphatic stoppage wins for Fury. After a quick comeback knockout of Robert Helenius, Wilder has since lost to Joseph Parker over 12 rounds and been stopped by China’s Zhilei Zhang in brutal fashion back in June.

With just one win in his last five fights over the last four years there has been calls for Wilder to hang up the gloves. Trainer Malik Scott this week revealed that would not be the case and said they would look at fights with Anthony Joshua, Derek Chisora and Francis Ngannou.

Speaking on his own YouTube channel, Carl Froch said the former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ngannou was the only option that made send.

“To be chucking the Anthony Joshua name in the mix, he’s obviously after one thing and that’s money, which is a shame.

If Wilder is determined to fight on I think the fight for him would be Ngannou. Ngannou is a massive name cause of the MMA background”

Ngannou is still a boxing novice having had just two fights, both of which he lost. He put on a good showing against Fury and knocked the then WBC champion down but eventually lost on points. His next fight lasted less than two complete rounds with Anthony Joshua.

Froch thinks that means the American heavyweight should be able to get the job done.

“[Ngannou’s] obviously been in there with Tyson Fury and got knocked out bad against Antony Joshua. But if Wilder is to come back, I don’t think Ngannou belongs in the professional ring, so I don’t think Deontay Wilder would have too much trouble with him. It might end up being a good fight but I’d expect Wilder to do the business … Like I said, I don’t think [Wilder] belongs in the ring [now] but If I’m looking after Deontay Wilder, that’s the fight.”

As of yet, fans have heard nothing from ‘The Bronze Bomber’ himself on the matter.
