News broke yesterday that Jake Paul will be taking on Gervonta Davis in an exhibition match and Carl Froch has been quick to react.
Paul is still a relative newcomer to boxing but is one of the most talked about men in the sport. He has had 13 fights and won 12 of them, with just one loss on points against Tommy Fury back in 2023. The rest of his opponents have been ageing fighters or retired MMA Stars, and include former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, whom he beat on points last November.
Since then, he has also beaten another former champion in Julio César Chávez Jr. and was strongly linked for a while with a fight with former heavyweight king Anthony Joshua.
That fight fell through and he is now set to face current WBA lightweight champion ‘Tank’ at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on November 14.
Another man that has been critical of Paul for a long time is Froch, who has even offered to face ‘The Problem Child’ in the past.
Speaking on his own channel Froch on Fighting, ‘The Cobra’ expressed his dismay at the contest, in other words, “an absolute joke.”
“Gervonta Davis, Fake Paul, November. I don’t know what is going on in boxing, this is an absolute joke.”
The weight for the fight and number of rounds have yet to be revealed, but Davis is one of the best in the game. He has held the WBA lightweight title since 2023, with victories over the likes of Mario Barrios, Isaac Cruz, Ryan Garcia and Frank Martin, and is a former super featherweight and super-lightweight champion.
There is not only a huge weight difference between these men, with Paul having fought up at heavyweight, but also a chasm in their boxing experience, which is what has left so many people shocked at the news.
