Carl Froch has been speaking about a fantasy fight between Lennox Lewis and Tyson Fury.
Both of these legendary heavyweights are currently retired. However, many hope that Fury will come back one more time for an epic showdown with Anthony Joshua.
He has been away from the sport since January following a second back-to-back loss to Oleksandr Usyk, who first beat him in May 2024 to become the first undisputed champion since Lewis in 1999.
Before that, he had an epic trilogy with Deontay Wilder that resulted in one draw and two wins for ‘The Gypsy King’, and he also beat Wladimir Klitschko on away soil to lift his maiden world title in 2015.
Lewis beat every man he faced, including Evander Holyfield, Frank Bruno and Mike Tyson, before retiring in 2023.
Speaking on his own Froch on Fighting channel, ‘The Cobra’ sided with Lewis to win and broke down the reasons why.
“Lennox Lewis. And the reason I was hesitant is because Fury’s obviously big enough, and skilful enough, and light enough on his feet with fast enough combinations to give anybody a hard fight. But I think Lennox Lewis. Especially the prime Lewis that smashed Andrew Galota down to the floor, rematched Hasim Rahman after getting chinned and was in there with the best of the best.”
If he doesn’t knock him out, he dominates him with combination punches. Too strong. Too big. Puts him on his back foot and hurts him and gets him beat up for a points decision. I think Tyson Fury would be in survival mode, boxing on his back foot, trying to out-hustle him. Lewis would close the range using his size and strength and belt him with that big right hand.”
