Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano battled it out in another historic fight on the undercard of Mike Tyson versus Jake Paul.

These two legendary women first fought in April 2022 in what was one of the greatest female fights of all time. That contest ended as a split decision win for Taylor, who retained her undisputed lightweight status.

Although an immediate rematch was talked about, the fighters went their separate ways with Taylor twice facing Chantelle Cameron, losing the first fight and wining the second, while Serrano dropped back down to featherweight to fight the likes of Sarah Mahfoud, Erika Cruz, Heather Hardy and Daniel Ramos.

The rematch this past weekend at the AT&T Stadium, Texas carried on where the first one left off as an all-action war from the first bell to the last. Serrano – who wobbled Taylor in the opening round – suffered a bad cut from a head clash which made it a bloody affair. It again ended with Taylor successfully retaining her belts, this time the undisputed super-lightweight championship, with a unanimous points decision with all three judges scoring it 95-94.

Speaking on his Froch on Fighting channel, former super-middleweight champion Carl Froch expressed his view that Taylor got lucky with the result, believing Serrano won all but ‘a couple of rounds’.

“I just thought Amanda Serrano still managed to keep her composure and still outworked and landed the clearer shots. The uppercuts, the hooks were going in. Yes she was getting caught back, but when you look at the overall punch statistics, which don’t always tell the tale of the fight no, but watching the fight I thought Serrano was winning round after round. Probably lost a couple of rounds.

“But when you look at the overall punch statistics, Serrano landed far more blows than Katie Taylor. The punch statistics don’t stack up to the result. I think there was one round in it and they gave it to Taylor. She was very, very lucky, she got the rub of the green there. She’s had her hand held again.

Brian Peters, [Katie’s] cornerman who I know really well, he couldn’t believe she won. When they called out the decision, he looked a bit subdued. As soon as they called Katie Taylor’s name as the winner he looked shocked.”

The close result was reflected in the fact that many from the boxing world were split down the middle.
