Carl Froch has expressed his views on the news that Tyson Fury has hung up his boxing gloves for the last time.
‘The Gypsy King’ took to special media yesterday and posted a short video to his Instagram announcing his retirement. He said he had enjoyed the ride, thanked the fans but said that he is now done with the sport.
Fury has a history of retiring and has done so several times before, but has always come back in the past. He is a former two-time world heavyweight champion and was for some years regarded as a pound-for-pound king after picking up the lineal title.
He won his first world honours after beating Wladimir Klitskcho on away soil in 2015. After a time away from the sport, he returned to defeat Deontay Wilder in two of their three fights which made him a WBC champion. In 2024, he went for ultimate undisputed glory against Oleksandr Usyk, but in both fights fell short and took the first two losses of his career.
Retried super middleweight legend Froch reacted to the news on his YouTube channel, saying he still believes fans will see Fury in the ring once again.
“I’m not sure that this retirement is official and if he is actually going to stay retired. I think we will see him dance one more time and it will be against Anthony Joshua. It would be a real shame for the boxing fans to not see the ‘AJ’ Fury fight.”
Many agree and hope this is smoke and mirrors from Fury and that he will indeed come back for at least one more super fight against fellow former two-time world champion Joshua in what would be a legacy-defining contest for both men.
