Oleksandr Usyk is the man to beat at heavyweight.
The former cruiserweight undisputed champion defeated Tyson Fury in May to become the first four-belt heavyweight ruler ever.
To get to the Fury fight the Ukrainian first had to relieve Anthony Joshua of his WBA, IBF and WBO titles and then defend them in a rematch. On both occasions Usyk outboxed the Brit and took a decision on the scorecards.
Having regained some of his best form, Joshua will now face Daniel Dubois in September for the IBF belt after Usyk vacated it for not facing his mandatory.
If ‘AJ’ gets through ‘DDD’, and Usyk successfully handles Fury again, then there will no doubt be calls for a trilogy fight, something the champion says he will accept.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Froch on Fighting, former super-middleweight champion, Carl Froch, says it’s ‘impossible’ for Joshua to beat Usyk
“I wouldn’t be that excited about seeing a third fight because Usyk beat him conclusively twice. AJ’s got Daniel Dubois next and he’s the favourite to win. The smart money would be on AJ, he has the experience and has been involved in more world title fights and I think that experience will help him massively against Dubois, but if Dubois goes for it and sticks it on him then he has a big chance.
Usyk beats AJ in the third fight, he’s done him twice so he’ll do him a third time. That’s nothing against AJ, Usyk is just class and he’s so good in that ring I just can’t see him losing.
Usyk will put a can of whoopa** on AJ. AJ can’t beat Usyk, he can’t beat him, it’s impossible unless he takes a bat in the ring.”
Joshua takes on Dubois on September 21 at Wembley stadium in London whilst the Fury-Usyk rematch is set for December 21 in Saudi Arabia.
