After a big night of heavyweight boxing in Saudi Arabia, Carl Froch has made his prediction for a potential fight between Zhilei Zhang and Anthony Joshua.
As the headliner of the Queensberry vs Matchroom 5v5 card, Zhang got his title ambitions back on track with a knockout victory over Deontay Wilder.
In what was a must win fight for both men, Zhang controlled the action from the first bell and caught Wilder off guard with a right hand in the fifth round to end the show.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Froch on Fighting, the former super-middleweight champion called for ‘The Bronze Bomber’ to retire.
“Wilder now has to be finished. He got flattened by Zhang and I think that has to be the end of his career. He looked a shadow of his former self.”
As for ‘Big Bang’, Froch would like to see him in against Joshua and predicts the Brit would stop the 41-year-old Chinese heavyweight late on.
“Zhilei Zhang, does he have much of a future? He’s an old boy, he’s a big lump, we know he runs out of steam after 5 or 6 rounds, but he’s good to watch, he’s big and solid and strong and can punch hard, but realistically has he got long left in his career, is he going to go anywhere?
I’d probably like to see him fight Anthony Joshua, that’s not a bad fight, I think AJ probably takes him into the later rounds and then beats him and gets the stoppage.”
More likely for Joshua is a fight against Daniel Dubois.
Dubois upset the odds by defeating Filip Hrgovic and is now the IBF interim heavyweight champion. A matchup against Joshua being is being tipped for September at Wembley stadium, where potentially the full title could be on the line.
