Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker is a fight that could well be happening next.
Dubois is currently searching for an opponent since it was confirmed Anthony Joshua wouldn’t be taking the rematch after ‘DDD’ earned a sensational fifth round knockout win at Wembley Stadium in September to retain his IBF heavyweight title.
Parker is at the top of a lot of people’s wish list for Dubois, with the New Zealander coming off the back of impressive victories over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang.
With a decision expected soon on who Dubois may face, former unified world champion Carl Froch has now weighed in on the potential match-up with Parker on his YouTube channel Froch on Fighting, first discussing the attributes of both men.
“Dubois is naturally bigger than Parker and punches harder than him, but Parker is on a couple of decent wins. He beat Zhang and beat Deontay Wilder, they’re good wins and he’s in good form. He’s really getting a second wind in his career.
“If Dubois can beat Joseph Parker after the wipeout job against AJ, he really has established himself as a bona fide world champion, and it’s a fight that will be good.
“You never know, Parker has bags of experience and is boxing and moving well. He’s super fit for 12 rounds and he can punch a bit as well. He’s tough, so that’s a tough fight for both guys but a really intriguing one.
“Parker has the experience and has been in with some of the best fighters out there, he’s got a good resume but he’s not won them all. AJ beat him early in his career. He’s getting a second wind and seems to be performing. The Wilder and Zhang fights I was very impressed with him, but I know Wilder is past his best.”
Froch then revealed his prediction for the fight if it goes ahead.
“I think you would have to say that Dubois is favourite because he’s such a big puncher. He does get worn out Parker. He’s fit and strong but he doesn’t punch up there with the big boys. He’d have to try and punch and move for 12 rounds.
“Dubois has the confidence of the AJ win and has that IBF title. I think if he puts the pressure on Parker after round 5 or 6 he can take it into the second half of the fight and starts closing in.
“He’s got a good jab Dubois, and he lands with that right hand and that right hand is crushing. I just think the big guy beats the little guy in this instance. It’ll be a close fight and a great fight for both. A great fight for Dubois and a brilliant win on his resume.
“If it goes the distance it will be close, but I think Dubois wins, I’m not going to sit on the fence, I think Dubois beats Parker in a cracker and probably gets him out of there.”
While Dubois vs Parker seems to be the current frontrunner, one trainer believes that the IBF champion is avoiding a fight with his man.
