Carl Froch has sent a stern message out to a two-time unified heavyweight champion.

That man is Anthony Joshua, who finds himself at a crossroads in his career eight months on from that devastating knockout defeat to reigning IBF world heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois.

The 35-year-old from Watford suffered the fourth defeat of his tenure against his countryman last September, which has subsequently left him in a difficult position as he enters the final chapter of his accomplished career.

Former world super-middleweight champion Froch has assessed Joshua’s chances of returning to the pinnacle of the heavyweight division, which has been dominated by Ukrainian great Oleksandr Usyk, who has already defeated ‘AJ’ twice.

Speaking to Sporting Talk, Froch claimed that the 35-year-old will need a ‘miracle’ to find some of his previous form, which saw him unify the division on two occasions.

“He needs a miracle if he needs AJ to come back because AJ can’t fight anybody … Forget Deontay Wilder, that’s not a fight I want to see, it’s going to be Tyson Fury if he decides to come out of retirement, that’s the only fight that makes any sense for AJ, if he fights Dubois he’s gonna get bombed out again, he’ll get splattered.”

Froch has predicted Fury will ‘run rings around Joshua’ should the fight happen.

Joshua is expected to make a return to the ring before the end of the year, after his initial comeback plans were squandered after he had to undergo surgery following an injury he picked up in training.

As reported earlier this week, two potential opponents that have emerged for ‘AJ’ are Dillian Whyte and Jared ‘Big Baby’ Anderson, although an official announcement is expected to be made in the coming months.
