Carl Froch Urged To Consider Ring Return To Face Former Rival

Carl Froch has been retired since 2014, but has now been offered a tempting return to the ring.

His final fight was the biggest of his career and saw him land the perfect punch to knock George Groves out cold in front of 80, 000 people at Wembley Stadium.

That was a grudge rematch that came just months after the controversial first fight in Manchester, which Froch won with what many thought was an early stoppage.

Froch lost only two fights in his career, one against Mikkel Kessler, which he later avenged, and the other against American multi-weight great Andre Ward.

Speaking on his YouTube channel Froch on Fighting, ‘The Cobra’ asked Ward if his talk of an exhibition between the two was real. He said:

“I thought about it cause we have history, we only fought once, there was talk about a second fight. We’re at an age now where these exhibitions are going to be better cause I’m too old to be moving around. I’m four years younger [than you] but I’m trying to get as many advantages as possible, that’s me.”

Ward is 42 later this month and has been out of the ring since June 2017, when he beat Sergey Kovalev for a second time, having also beaten him in 2016 to claim his WBA, IBF and WBO light heavyweight titles.

The American was also a champion down at super-middleweight and beat Froch in 2011 as well as the likes of Arthur Abraham and Kessler, which meant he retired undefeated with a record of 32 wins and 16 KOs.
