Carl Froch Performs Massive U-Turn On Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn Fight

Carl Froch has changed his views on the upcoming Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn fight.

It has been more than two years since these two generational rivals were first set to fight in October 2022. The event was pulled when news broke that Benn had failed a doping test and he has spent much of the time since attempting to clear his name. He also fought and won twice in the States.

Eubank lost to Liam Smith in his first fight after the controversy, though avenged that result in a rematch and, in October of last year, stopped Kamil Szeremeta.

Benn was cleared to fight in the UK by the National Anti-Doping in November and the bout with Eubank Jr was signed soon after. The pair are set to go at it on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Late last year, former super-middleweight world champion Froch said the match-up was of ‘no interest at all.’

“For me it’s not a fight I want to see. Chris Eubank Jr is 35 years old, well past his best, what’s he ever done? Whenever he steps up he lost to George Groves, lost to Billy Joe Saunders, whenever he steps up he gets found out. He got f***ing ironed out by Liam Smith, battered. I know he won the rematch but Smith was dead on the scales.”

“It’s two fighters that are literally gonna fight each other for the old bunsen burner. Fair play, but don’t ask an old boxing guy like me, I’ve no interest at all.”

Speaking more recently on his own Froch on Fighting, ‘The Cobra’ reassessed the contest.

“I want to see the fight. The history of the fathers makes me more interested but what’s at stake? Not much. Obviously Jr has already been beaten, he lost to Billy Joe Saunders, lost to George Groves and got battered by Liam Smith.

With those three losses, it’s took the edge off the fight. Conor Benn is unbeaten, on the climb since failing that drug test … The fight’s happening. I’m looking forward to it. And I just think, when the time comes around, it will be massive.”

An official press conference for the event is expected in the coming weeks with ticket sales to follow.
